SeaWind Aviation’s Alps and Harbor flight is a great way to experience a birds eye view of Ketchikan and the surrounding area of southern Southeast Alaska by floatplane before landing at a remote lodge for a crab feast. Fly over Ketchikan’s historic waterfront and see how the town developed between the ocean to the west and steep mountains that loom over Ketchikan to the east. Then fly above the mountains – locally known as the Ketchikan Alps: tall, snow-clad spires that form the city’s backdrop. It’s not uncommon to see mountain goats or bears above the timberline, wild and uninterrupted.
Your meal will begin with Alaskan Amber beer or white wine. Once lunch is served, you will enjoy a fresh romaine salad, topped with mandarin oranges and tossed in homemade oriental dressing. Steaming hot Dungeness crab paired with clarified butter and baby red potatoes follow as the main course. Savor this Alaskan delicacy that is prized for its sweet and tender meat, but save room for dessert… Rich and smooth cheesecake, smothered in Alaskan blueberries will be a perfect ending to this world class meal! You’ll then have the opportunity to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery that surrounds you. Stroll the dock or pick up some souvenirs in George Inlet’s quaint shop before enjoying a fully narrated drive back to historic downtown Ketchikan.
In 30 minutes, you will be able to experience the length of Ketchikan’s road system, the wilderness that surrounds it and maybe even a glimpse at some wildlife. During the flight, your pilot will provide a live and interactive narration of the fascinating natural and human history of the area. Unlike a pre-recorded narrative, all passengers are equipped with voice-activated headsets which permit the pilot and all guests to converse back and forth. After your beautiful aerial tour of the wilderness in our backyard, you will enjoy a sumptuous meal at a serene and remote lodge. Once the plane gently touches down on the waters of George Inlet Fjord, it will glide to a stop at the dock of the lodge, where your host will be awaiting.
