Misty Fjords Tour

Some of nature's most majestic work in Alaska is a short flight from Ketchikan, in the Misty Fjords National Monument.

See Ketchikan Alaska’s Misty Fjords wilderness from the air and touch down to feel its colossal beauty with all of your senses.

This unique landscape and the living things in it are protected in Misty Fjords National Monument … 2.2 million acres managed by the U.S. Forest Service as wilderness since 1980.

Misty Fjords Aerial-Steve tookFractured granite walls, scoured by glaciers thousands of years ago, plunge thousands of feet into deep fjords. Misted mountains lift snowfields and wildflowers above treeline. Impossibly green ancient trees clutch steep slopes. High valleys cradle dark lakes. Waterfalls cascade out of rock clefts to disappear into forest slopes.

You're as close as can be on our Misty Fjords tours. On your way to Misty Fjords, pilot Steve Kamm provides a live interactive narration of the facinating natural and human history of the area. Also unlike a pre-recorded narrative, all passengers are equipped with voice-activated headsets which permits the pilot and our guests to converse back and forth during the flight.

We'll make a breathtaking flight through Misty Fjords. You'll see 3,000-foot granite walls and lush mountaintops up close. Steve will call your attention to the spectacular Alaskan wildlife often seen in the Misty Fjords and Tongass National Forest, including brown and black bears, mountain goats, humpback whales and bald eagles.

We'll touch down on a high, remote mountain lake or saltwater inlet; depending on mountaintop weather conditions (we call it "misty" for good reason).

After taxiing to shore, you'll be able to get out on land to take priceless photos and breathe in the freshest, most fragrant air anywhere. On those occasions when wildlife is close by on shore, photo opportunities will be afforded right from the floats of the plane!

One aspect of our Misty Fjords tour that sets us apart from other Ketchikan Alaska flightseeing services is the uniqueness of each trip. Weather conditions permitting, we can alter trips depending on your preference to land near orcas, bears in the wild, or spend as much time as possible on a remote mountain lake. It’s your tour.

When you take to the air for the return to Ketchikan from your Misty Fjords flightseeing tour, you're taking away memories of a magnificent place.

Glacier Fjords Tour

Glacier Fjords Tour with SeaWind Aviation of Ketchikan Alaska

This is the tour for those who want it all: a complete Misty Fjords tour; a slow, dramatic flight over spectacular blue glaciers; and a landing on a remote, Alaska wilderness lake.

First we fly through thrilling Misty Fjords; our tour features Rudyerd Bay, the most scenic fjord in the Misty Fjords National Monument. We ascend from the fjords and fly slowly over massive Soule Glacier and nearby rivers of blue ice grinding through granite valleys. The tour cuts over to the big Chickamin River and we land on a remote lake; our favorite is gorgeous Leduc Lake. You’ll have an opportunity to leave the plane and indulge your senses as your pilot Steve Kamm cuts the engine. The return trip takes us back above a cross-section of this magnificent backcountry ... so save some room on your camera.

Alaska Flightseeing tours to the Misty Fjords National Monument and Alaska bear viewing tours in the Tongass National Forest are operated under permit issued by the USDA Forest Service.

"One of the most interesting sights in Alaska is the Misty Fjords National Monument. With over 2.2 million acres of wilderness, it is unique because fjords traverse the entire area. With sheer granite cliffs falling thousands of feet into deep fjords, the scenery is simply spectacular. Add the fact that the entire monument resides in a coastal rain forest and Misty Fjords National Monument is one of the most awe inspiring sights in Alaska." Tom Ogg, PortReviews.com
